IUL explained
Participate in market gains. Pause when markets fall.
Indexed Universal Life in plain English, including when it is not the right choice.
Hypothetical yearly credited interest
Illustration only. Assumes a 0% floor and 10% cap. Real caps and floors vary by carrier and policy and are not guaranteed.
- Floor
- The lowest interest credited in a year, often 0%, so an index drop does not reduce credited interest. Policy charges still apply.
- Cap
- The maximum interest credited in a year. If the index returns more, you receive the cap.
- Participation rate
- The share of the index gain your policy uses to calculate interest.
- Cash value
- The savings portion of the policy. It can be accessed through loans and withdrawals, which reduce the death benefit and can lapse the policy if mismanaged.
- Death benefit
- The amount paid to your beneficiaries, which generally arrives income-tax-free.
A good fit if you...
- Want lifelong coverage and can fund premiums for many years
- Have already used employer plans and want a complementary tool
- Value downside protection and flexibility
- Care about leaving a legacy
Probably not a fit if you...
- Need the money in the next few years
- May struggle to keep paying premiums
- Mainly want the highest possible return
- Have not yet built an emergency fund or captured an employer match
Questions about IUL
Do I already have enough coverage through my employer?
Often not. Group coverage usually ends when you leave the job and is commonly a small multiple of salary. Julliet reviews what you have before suggesting anything new.
Is IUL a replacement for my 401(k) or 403(b)?
No. It can complement them. Most people should consider employer matches and other tax-advantaged accounts first.
When is IUL not a good fit?
If you need short-term savings, cannot commit to premiums for many years, or mainly want the highest possible return, other tools may serve you better. Julliet will say so.
Does Julliet's nursing background affect the advice?
It shapes how she listens and explains. JUBRENT Alliance provides financial education and insurance planning, not medical advice.
What does the first call cost?
Nothing. It is a conversation with no obligation, in person, by phone, on video or on WhatsApp.
